About LLB (Bachelor of Laws) — 3-Year Programme

LLB is a 3-year professional law degree pursued after completing any bachelor's degree. It is the primary qualification for practicing as an advocate in Indian courts and is regulated by the Bar Council of India (BCI). After completing LLB and enrolling with the State Bar Council, graduates can practice in district courts, high courts and ultimately the Supreme Court.

The 3-year LLB is designed for graduates who decide to enter the legal profession after completing their first degree — in any discipline.

Why 3-Year LLB?

  • Efficient pathway to legal practice for graduates from any background
  • B.Sc. + LLB, B.Com + LLB and BA + LLB combinations are very common and respected
  • Lower cost than integrated BA LLB (5 years) — do your preferred degree first, then specialise in law
  • Can practice as an advocate immediately after enrollment with the State Bar Council
  • Pathway to LLM, Judicial Services exam, UPSC and corporate law careers

What Will You Study?

  • Year 1 — Jurisprudence, Law of Contract, Family Law I (Hindu Law), Constitutional Law I, Legal Research
  • Year 2 — Torts & Consumer Protection, Family Law II (Muslim Law), Constitutional Law II, Criminal Law (IPC, CrPC), Law of Evidence
  • Year 3 — Civil Procedure Code, Company Law, Labour Law, Property Law, Arbitration & ADR, Moot Court

How Can You Get Admission?

  • State bar council / university entrance exams — DU, BHU, Mumbai University, AMU conduct LLB entrance exams
  • CLAT (PG stream) — for NLU 3-year LLB (limited seats)
  • Direct admission — at many private law colleges based on graduation marks

Duration: 3 years (6 semesters) | Eligibility: Any bachelor's degree with minimum 45% marks
