What Happened?
On 3 March 2026, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu approved a landmark set of five major education reform agendas in a single meeting — described by officials as a significant milestone in the restructuring of school and higher education governance in the state. The decisions cover everything from how teachers are transferred, to how college professors are promoted, to who gets seats in technical courses.
These reforms did not happen in isolation. They are part of Arunachal Pradesh's broader effort to align its education system with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and with updated University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations of 2018. For students, parents, and teachers in the state, these changes have direct, practical implications — some of which will be felt within the current academic year.
Several of the reform bills were formally introduced in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on 6 March 2026, with Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona tabling the Transfer and Posting Bill before the Assembly. This means these reforms are now moving from Cabinet approval to becoming actual law.

What This Means for Students from Arunachal Pradesh
If you are a student from Arunachal Pradesh — whether you are currently in school, applying to college, or planning higher studies — these reforms have a direct bearing on your educational journey. Stable teacher postings mean less disruption in your school years. The shift to Professorship grants means the teachers guiding you at the college level will be more research-active and academically motivated. If you are applying for Diploma, Engineering, Pharmacy, or Allied Health courses, the revised seat reservation policy changes the competitive dynamics of admission — especially for non-APST candidates. And if you are an aspiring PE teacher, for the first time there are formal, notified rules governing how you can enter government service. Gyan Sanchaar will continue to track how these reforms are implemented and what they mean for students from Arunachal Pradesh who are looking for colleges both within the state and across India.
