Tamil Nadu MBBS & BDS 2026-27: Applications Closed, Merit List Awaited

Update, 25 July 2026: Tamil Nadu's MBBS and BDS 2026-27 application window closed on 23 July 2026, 5:00 PM, exactly as the Directorate of Medical Education & Research said it would. What Happened

The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Medical Education & Research, in Notification No. 006/SCS1(1)/2026 dated 17 July 2026, had said plainly that the 23 July, 5:00 PM deadline would not move, no matter how many requests came in. It held. Independent reporting after the deadline confirms the same: applications closed on schedule, and Tamil Nadu's Selection Committee is now working through scrutiny ahead of releasing the merit list, which had not been published as of this update. Check the official Selection Committee channels directly for its current status, since that date can change day to day.

The Timeline, Start to Finish

• 28 April 2026: the list of documents required for UG medical application was published.
• 29 June 2026: the application window opened.
• 16 July 2026: NTA declared the NEET UG 2026 result.
• 17 July 2026: the Committee confirmed over 41,000 completed applications already in hand, and that the window would close in one week.
• 23 July 2026, 5:00 PM: applications closed. No extension.

Why the Committee Held the Line

The original notice was specific about why, and the reasoning still explains what is happening right now, days later. Four things have to happen after applications close, each on its own schedule:

1. 1Scrutiny of every application received.
2. 2Publication of the list of candidates found in-eligible during that scrutiny.
3. 3A Grievance Redressal Window for exactly those in-eligible candidates to respond.
4. 4Handover to the DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services) for UG medical counselling, which runs on a short timeline of its own.

That is the stage the process is in now: applications are closed, and scrutiny is underway before the merit list can go out.

If You Applied Before 23 July

There is nothing further to submit right now. Watch for the merit list on the official Selection Committee channels, and be ready to respond quickly if you are named on any in-eligible list during scrutiny. The Grievance Redressal Window for that group will not stay open indefinitely.

If You Missed the 23 July Deadline

The application window for this cycle is closed, and nothing in the official notices points to a late-entry provision. If your situation involves something specific, a technical failure on the portal at the time of submission, for instance, contact the Directorate of Medical Education & Research directly and ask; that is not something any third party can resolve or confirm on your behalf.
