About RIPT Group of Institutions
RIPT Group of Institutions sits in Sonapur, about 20 km from Guwahati in Assam's Kamrup Metropolitan district. It started in 2009 as the Regional Institute of Paramedical Technology, built around one idea: the North East needed its own colleges for nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and medical lab training, not just a handful of seats borrowed from institutes elsewhere in India.
Three colleges run under the RIPT banner today:
- Regional College of Allied and Healthcare (RCAH) — started in 2009, affiliated to Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Guwahati, and approved by the Assam Health & Family Welfare Department. Runs physiotherapy and medical laboratory science programmes.
- P Baruah School of Nursing (PBSON) — started in 2012, approved by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. Runs GNM and ANM.
- Regional College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RCPS) — started in 2020, approved by the Pharmacy Council of India and affiliated to SSUHS. Runs D.Pharm and B.Pharm.
Dr. Parul Baruah is the Managing Director of RIPT Group. The motto on every prospectus cover — Educate, Enlighten, Excel — is also how the group describes its own approach in its admission material, year after year since 2009.
Why families from Assam and the North East pick RIPT
If you're the first person in your family applying to a health sciences college, a few things matter more than glossy photos: is the course government-recognised, will your child actually get hands-on hospital training, and can you visit without flying halfway across the country. RIPT answers the first two directly — GNM is regulated by the Indian Nursing Council, B.Pharm and D.Pharm by the Pharmacy Council of India, and the physiotherapy and lab science degrees carry SSUHS affiliation. Clinical postings run through hospitals families in Assam already know: Guwahati Medical College Hospital, Sonapur BPHC & District Hospital, Morigaon Civil Hospital, Khetri CHC, Apollo Hospitals, Pratiksha Hospital, GNRC, and Sanjeevani Critical Care Hospitals & Research Centre.
Campus and library
The library opened with the institute in 2009. It now holds more than 3,000 books, five types of national and international journals, daily newspapers, a reading room, and an attached e-learning hub. Boys and girls have separate hostels near the campus, with transport connecting hostel, classes and clinical postings — the fleet can carry up to 100 students at a time. There's a cafeteria on campus for daily meals, and departments run their own labs: anatomy & physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, haematology, histopathology and cytopathology, plus an Out-Patient Department where physiotherapy students practise on real patients under supervision.
Scholarships
RIPT gives merit and need-based scholarships — stipends or tuition waivers — to students who qualify, and helps students apply for Assam state and central government scholarship schemes. Students can also take an education loan from a bank of their choice, with the admissions office helping with the paperwork.
